History Steeped in History Nestled at the head of the historically vital Shenandoah Valley, Lexington is perhaps the perfect spot for a Scots Irish Heritage Festival. Many of the original settlers in the Valley were the early Scots Irish pioneers, who left their English counterparts along the Virginia coast and slipped over the Blue Ridge Mountains, or arrived from northern gateways like Philadelphia. From here they carried the journey on South through the Carolinas and West. Lexington has been the home and final resting place of Governors, Revolutionary and Civil War heroes, and the spirit of many of them can still be felt in this beautiful, historic little city. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, who left Lexington in 1861 and rode into immortality is buried here, and his statue still stands watch over his adopted home town. The Lexington Lions Club and the Lexington Rockbridge Chamber of Commerce welcomes you to Lexington and our warm and friendly people for the 2012 Scots Irish Heritage Festival. Join us April 14th, 2012 The Festival will be moved indoors in the event of bad weather. |
